Stretching nearly 17 inches across, this black walnut slab commands attention with a bold, shield-like silhouette that flares wide at the shoulders before sweeping down to a curved base. But it’s what’s happening across the surface that truly sets it apart: a deep, swirling crotch figure runs through the heart of the board like a dark current, where the wood’s grain twisted and compressed at a major fork in the tree, producing a pattern of turbulent, almost liquid depth that can’t be planned or predicted.

Milled at our Silverhill workshop, the surrounding grain fans out from that central figure in rich chocolate and warm walnut tones, giving the board a sense of movement from edge to edge. The result is a piece that looks like it was composed rather than cut.

At 25 inches long and nearly 17 inches wide, this is a board built for a proper feast — the kind of spread that covers the whole surface and leaves guests standing around it rather than sitting down. It’s equally at home as a permanent fixture on a kitchen island or a statement piece on the wall.
